SPECIAL EVENT, Good英会話 - Bug Repellent with Pure Essential Oils! エッセンシャルオイルの虫除け

In this special event, we will be making a bug repellent spray, using carefully selected essential oils that are widely used and accepted in the aromatherapy communities as insect repellents.

この特別なイベントでは、アロマセラピーコミュニティで虫除けとして広く使用され受け入れられている精油を厳選して使用した虫除けスプレーを作ります。

It's perfect timing to keep those pesky summer bugs away!

There's also the informed presentation where we explore the common practices and age old usage of Essential Oils.

People have used these essential oils for centuries, and there's a wealth of practical knowledge handed down from generation to generation. 

プレゼンテーションもあります。ここでは、エッセンシャルオイルの用途と歴史を探ります。    人々はヨーロッパで何世紀にもわたってこれらのエッセンシャルオイルを使用してきました。

The main focus of the event presentation will be Citronella and Peppermint.

After the event, you will recieve an email with resources of information about Citronella to read at your own leisure. 

イベントで使う主なオイルは、シトロネラとペパーミントです。 イベント終了後、シトロネラに関する情報が記載されたメールをお届けします。

For the craft, pure essential oils will be available for you to use, including favorites like Eucalyptus, Lavender, Rosemary and Geranium! 

Everything to make the craft will be available at the event, including bottles and all ingredients.

You can take the craft you make at this event home with you and start using it strait away!

クラフトには、純粋なエッセンシャルオイルを使用できます。ユーカリ、ラベンダー、ローズマリー、ゼラニウム！   防虫剤を作るためのすべてがイベントで利用可能になります。   このイベントで作ったスプレーを持ち帰り、すぐに使い始めることができます！

The event will take place in English, but someone will be there to help with Japanese if you need help.

イベントは英語で行われますが、助けが必要な場合は誰かが日本語を手伝ってくれます。

Why make your own bug spray?

“N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) is the usual go-to for commercial bug spray. It’s incredibly controversial, and for good reason. Dr. Abou Donia, a Duke University pharmacologist, found that “rats treated with an average human dose of DEET (40 mg/kg body weight) performed far worse than control rats when challenged with physical tasks requiring muscle control, strength and coordination.”

In the same study, Dr. Abou Donia found that DEET caused “neurons to die in regions of the brain that control muscle movement, learning, memory and concentration.” The pharmacologist says that children are at a higher risk for brain changes after DEET exposure because their skin absorbs it more readily.

It’s also interesting to note that as of 2018 the EPA has yet to complete an endocrine disruptor screening on DEET, so that data is still unknown.
